Babar Azam exits BBL early after lean run with Sixers

Pakistan star Babar Azam has left the Big Bash League midway after an underwhelming stint with Sydney Sixers, the franchise confirmed on Monday as the tournament enters its decisive phase.

Babar struggled for consistency, managing only modest scores across his appearances, which failed to justify his high-profile signing. The Sixers announced his departure with a brief message on social media, saying, “Thank you, Babar,” as he headed back ahead of international commitments.

“It didn’t go the way I wanted, but I enjoyed the experience,” Babar was quoted as saying by Australian media. A Sixers team official admitted the move was planned, noting, “This was always a short-term arrangement.”

Former players pointed out that form, not talent, was the issue, stressing that Babar remains “a world-class batter going through a tough phase.”

The early exit ends Babar’s brief BBL chapter as the Sixers refocus on the business end of the season.
