Ex-India captain backs Sarfaraz Khan for recall

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday urged the national selectors to give Sarfaraz Khan another opportunity, sending a clear message to chief selector Ajit Agarkar amid ongoing debates over India’s middle-order options. Ganguly said Sarfaraz’s domestic consistency deserves renewed faith at the international level.
Sarfaraz, who impressed in domestic cricket with multiple prolific Ranji Trophy seasons, has struggled to cement his place after a brief run in Tests. “He deserves another chance,” Ganguly said in an interview with Indian media. “You can’t judge a player on a couple of games.”
The former BCCI president stressed that form in domestic cricket should matter. “Sarfaraz has scored runs everywhere. That kind of performance cannot be ignored for long,” Ganguly added, pointing to his ability to score big hundreds under pressure.
With India entering a crucial phase of the Test calendar, selection calls are under scrutiny. Ganguly concluded, “If you back talent, you must back it properly. Sarfaraz has the game to succeed at this level.”
