India rally late to hold Scotland in qualifiers

India battled back to earn a 2–2 draw against Scotland in the Hockey World Cup qualifiers, rescuing a point after falling behind early in the contest. Scotland seized control in the opening phase and looked set for victory before India mounted a spirited comeback.

The hosts improved after the break, raising the tempo and converting their chances to level the match. “The players showed great character to fight back,” an Indian team official said after the game.

Scotland’s coach admitted the result was frustrating. “We had the advantage but couldn’t finish the job,” he said.

The draw keeps India in the hunt in the qualifying race as the competition intensifies.
