India retain T20 World Cup, seal historic third title

India secured their third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title on March 8, defeating New Zealand in the final and successfully defending the crown with a dominant all-round display that confirmed their status as the tournament’s standout team.

The hosts controlled the match from the start, piling up a massive total with aggressive batting before their bowlers dismantled the Kiwi chase. Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded the attack with a decisive spell, while the batting unit laid the foundation for a comfortable victory.

“This is a special moment for the whole team,” Bumrah said after the win. “Everyone contributed and that’s why we’re champions.”

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner admitted India were superior on the day. “They were outstanding and put us under pressure from the start,” he said.

Former players praised the champions’ campaign, calling India’s unbeaten run “one of the most complete performances in T20 World Cup history.”
