IPL 2026 schedule delayed amid election and venue uncertainty

The BCCI has put the IPL 2026 schedule on hold as it awaits confirmation of India’s general election dates and clarity over home venues for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. The decision was taken this week during internal planning talks, with officials unwilling to lock fixtures until key logistics are resolved.
A senior BCCI official told Times of India, “We cannot finalise the schedule without knowing the election window. Security availability is a major factor.” Another source added that uncertainty around stadium readiness in Bengaluru and Jaipur has further complicated planning, saying, “Venue approvals are still pending, so flexibility is limited.”
The IPL is expected to retain its usual March–May window, but the board may be forced into last-minute adjustments once election dates are announced. Final clarity is likely only after coordination with government and security agencies.
