Kishan named SRH interim captain for IPL 2026

Ishan Kishan was appointed interim captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 18 for the start of IPL 2026, taking charge due to Pat Cummins’ injury absence as the team prepares for the new season.
The wicketkeeper-batter will lead SRH in the opening matches, with management backing his experience and aggressive style to guide a squad aiming for a stronger campaign after finishing outside the playoffs last year. Abhishek Sharma has been named vice-captain to support him.
“I am honoured to lead this team and take on the responsibility,” Kishan said. “We have a talented group and the goal is to start strong.”
A team official explained the decision: “Ishan brings energy and leadership, especially with Cummins unavailable early on.”
A senior teammate added: “He plays fearless cricket, and that mindset helps the whole side.”
Kishan, who scored over 350 runs last season including a century, now faces a key test as SRH look to build early momentum before their regular captain returns.
