Para shuttlers Sarkar, Mandeep injured in crash

Indian para-badminton stars Manoj Sarkar and Mandeep Kaur were admitted to the ICU after a road accident in Odisha on Thursday, officials confirmed. The duo were travelling near Cuttack when their vehicle was involved in a collision, leaving both players with serious injuries but in stable condition.

Local authorities said they were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors placed them under intensive care as a precaution. “Both athletes are conscious and responding to treatment,” a hospital official told local media, adding that their condition is being closely monitored.

A team representative said the incident occurred while they were returning from training. “It’s a shocking moment for all of us. Our focus is on their recovery,” the official stated.

Sarkar, a Paralympic medallist, and Mandeep have been key figures in India’s para-shuttle circuit, and the federation said further updates will follow after medical evaluation.
