Sanju Samson Breaks Kohli T20I Record

Sanju Samson surpassed Virat Kohli’s T20I milestone during India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup fixture this week, setting a new national record with a fluent match-winning knock that rewrote the record books.

The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter reached the landmark with a blistering half-century, moving past Kohli’s previous tally for the most runs in a calendar year for India in T20Is. Samson attacked from the start, clearing the ropes repeatedly and lifting his strike rate above 150 as India posted a commanding total.

“It feels special to contribute on a big stage,” Samson said after the game. “Records are great, but winning for India matters more.”

A team official praised his composure, noting, “Sanju has taken responsibility and delivered under pressure.”

Kohli’s record had stood for years, but Samson’s consistency and fearless strokeplay have now placed him at the top of India’s T20I charts.
