Siddi judoka Rohit Majgul makes history with CWG & Asian Games qualification

Gujarat judoka Rohit Majgul, 21, has become the first athlete from India’s Siddi community to qualify for both the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, sealing his spot at the Judo Selection Trials in New Delhi on Feb 23 with a strong performance in the -66kg category.
Majgul, who battled racial slurs growing up in the Gir forest’s Siddi village, defeated Haryana’s Garvit Hooda in the final to book his place on Team India.
“I’ve been called names all my life, but hard work has brought me here,” he said, reflecting on his journey from local competitions to elite trials.
Coaches and supporters say this milestone could inspire more athletes from underrepresented communities to pursue sport at the highest levels.
Majgul now heads to international training camps as he prepares for the big stages later this year.
