T20 World Cup kicks off across USA, Caribbean

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins this month across the United States and the Caribbean, marking the first time cricket’s global showpiece is staged on American soil. Sixteen teams will compete across venues in New York, Texas, Florida and several Caribbean islands, as the ICC targets new audiences and commercial growth.
Tournament officials said logistics and security plans are in place despite the scale of the event. “This is a landmark moment for cricket,” an ICC spokesperson said. “Hosting matches in the US opens the game to millions of new fans.” West Indies Cricket president Ricky Skerritt added, “The Caribbean is ready to deliver the festival atmosphere cricket is known for.”
Players have also welcomed the expansion. “It’s exciting to play in front of fresh crowds,” said England captain Jos Buttler, while India’s Rohit Sharma noted, “The World Cup always brings pressure, but new venues add extra motivation.”
The tournament runs through late June, with traditional rivals set to clash as cricket looks to strengthen its global footprint.
