Vaibhav Sooryavanshi eyes Gayle’s 175 record, IPL glory

Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set an ambitious target ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season, saying he wants to break Chris Gayle’s iconic 175-run record while helping Rajasthan Royals chase the IPL trophy. The 14-year-old made the remarks during the BCCI’s Naman Awards event on Sunday.

Asked which milestone he would most like to achieve — hitting six sixes in an over, scoring the fastest IPL century, or surpassing Gayle’s record — Sooryavanshi didn’t hesitate. “Breaking that 175 record,” he said with confidence.

Gayle’s unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013 remains the highest individual score in IPL history and one of the most explosive innings in T20 cricket.

Despite the bold personal goal, Sooryavanshi stressed that team success comes first. “The main aim is to win the IPL trophy,” he said, adding that individual records would simply be a bonus along the way.

The young Rajasthan Royals star has already made headlines with record-breaking performances and believes bigger achievements could still lie ahead on the IPL stage.
